Can More Than one User Add products?

If I have a website and I would like to allow my business partner to add his own products and I add my own products, will this work?

RE: Can More Than one User Add products?

Are you referring to you and your business partner managing products on your website via the web server, or on the other hand, a multi-tasking work environment using Microsoft Excel and XLEcom?

Can you provide more specific information about the situation you are in and what you need to have accomplished?

RE: Can More Than one User Add products?

I am referring to my business partner and myself. An example would be: I have am at home and would like to add 10 additional products, so I use XLEcom to design and add the 10 new products to our website. My partner has 3 new products he would like to add. Can he use XLEcom and add his products to the same website I am, but he is at his home. So basically, each of us can add and/or delete products to the shared website, but from to seperate locations.

Accessing XLEcom from Remote Locations

There are two ways to accomplish editing XLEcom from two different locations. First of all you will need to purchase a license for each individual user.

Method 1 - Windows Remote Access:
You can use Windows built-in "Remote Desktop" to edit the XLEcom.xls on one machine from different locations. This is the simplest method. Please do not request help in setting up the "Remote Desktop". This is a Microsoft Window Operating system issue and already has help within the system for setting this up.

Method 2 - Remote FTP Access:
You can setup a remote password protected FTP section on your website to access the same XLEcom.xls file from each of your own computers.

You will first need to install the full XLEcom program onto the two computers at the different locations, After the installation, you will then only need to share the single XLEcom.xls file. You do not need to place all the support images and HTML file assets on the FTP site.

To implement Method 2, you must first Add an FTP site to the list of FTP locations to Excel and then Save the XLEcom.xls file to the FTP site. The following explains how to perform this method. Keep in mind this will require a broadband Internet connection because the XLEcom.xls file can be quite large. Also you must take into account your Firewall settings to allow access to the FTP site. Please do not request help in this area if you run into problems. This is also a Microsoft Window Operating system issue.

Add an FTP site to the list of FTP locations
To add an FTP site to the list of FTP locations in the Save As and Open dialog boxes, you must have access to the FTP site. You can gain access to an FTP site either through a direct network connection to the Internet or through a dial-in Internet service provider. For information about how to set up Internet access, see the Microsoft Office Resource Kit, available at the Microsoft Web site.

Note: You must have your proxy settings set correctly to modify or add an FTP location. Contact your system administrator for the correct proxy setting.

  1. Click Open.
  2. In the Look in list, click Add/Modify FTP Locations.
  3. In the Name of FTP site box, type the FTP server name; for example, ftp.xlecom.com
  4. Do one of the following:
If you want to log on anonymously and the site permits this, click Anonymous. (not recommended for security reasons. use a password protected FTP site)
If you have a user account at the site and want to use it to log on, click User, and then type your user name in the User box.
  5. If you do not want to be prompted for your password each time you open or save files at the site, type your password in the Password box.
  6. Click Add.

Save the XLEcom.xls file to an FTP site
Before you can save the XLEcom.xls file to an FTP site, you must add the FTP site to your list of FTP locations. See above.

To save the XLEcom.xls file to an FTP site, you must have permission to save files at the site. For information about access permissions or any problems you encounter, contact the administrator for the site.

  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. In the Save in list, click FTP Locations.
  3. In the list of FTP locations, double-click the site you want, and then double-click directories until you find the directory where you want to save the XLEcom.xls file.
  4. In the File name box, type a name for the XLEcom.xls file.
  5. Click Save.

Note When you save the XLEcom.xls file to an FTP site, you cannot create backup copies of the XLEcom.xls file by selecting the Always create backup check box in the Save Options dialog box. (To locate this option, click Save As on the File menu, click Tools, and then click General Options.)

Open the XLEcom.xls file from an FTP site
From the File Open menu, select your specific FTP site from the "Look in" drop down scroll box (near the bottom of the list under "Add/Modify FTP Locations"). Choose the XLEcom.xls file to open it. That's it.
