XLEcom Professional and Webmaster Version 6.2 Released

XLEcom Professional and Webmaster 6.2 (6.2.922) released on January 17, 2010

Feature Repair:

  • Font Color Search Results Fix:
A fix to correct the appearance of the font colors within the Site Search results when used on black background colored websites.

In Versions 6.0 and 6.1, black is the default fixed font color displayed within the Site's search results. Therefore, an XLEcom website which utilizes a black colored background will yield search results that cannot be seen.

This fix changes the font colors of the search results to variables to reflect the colors utilized within Product Ads. Therefore, the font colors of the returned search results can be controlled by the user.

For XLEcom Professional and Webmaster versions 6.0 and 6.1 users who do not want to upgrade to version 6.2, a Patch for this issue is available here:

XLEcom Search Font Patch - Patches XLEcom Version 6.0 and 6.1 Professional and Webmaster

New Feature:

  • Added an all purpose Data_Clean_Up function to the Database Utilities

I have noticed that some XLEcom users are not entering in the Item Descriptions correctly and therefore the integrated Site Search feature does not work properly. In order to fix this problem, I added an all purpose  Data_Clean_Up routine function to the Database Utilities on the Database sheet that will clean up your Item Descriptions by removing all non-printable characters, line breaks, and extra spaces.

For XLEcom Professional and Webmaster versions 6.0 and 6.1 users who do not want to upgrade to version 6.2, You can download the Data_Clean_Up VBA Macro here (Data_Clean_Up.xls): Data_Clean_Up.zip

New Features:

  • Product Ad Height Override Adjustment
  • Site Properties - Dimensions
  • Left Frame / Area Region Additional User Code

Product Ad Height Override Adjustment
Use these settings to adjust the Item Name and Item Description table cell heights to make all your Published Product Ads the same vertical size within your web site. See the sample diagram below.

Note: These settings only affect the Products Ads if you selected the Two Ad Column Layout. The Single Ad Column Layout does not need to or utilize these settings. You can also apply the Item Name cell height to the Product Ads that appear on the Home Page with Ads. These settings will provide no benefit if you chose to "Automatically resizes with the browser window" within the Ad Design utility.

What does the Adjustment Do?
This is an optional feature for "tweaking" the look of your Product Ads if you selected the Two Ad Column Layout format. In most situations, not all of your Product Ads will contain the same amount of text in either the Item Name or Item Description. Therefore when published, each individual Product Ad may appear to have different vertical heights due to text wrapping within the table cells. Use these adjustment settings to add extra space below the text within these designated table cell areas so that all of your published ads will have the same vertical height.

Site Properties - Dimensions
The "Page width" defines the width of the page for Non Framed sites. It also affects the area widths of the Company Name and Navigation menus along the top of the page for both Framed and Non framed sites. The “Company Name width” is the area width allocated for the Company Name. The width area allocated to the Top Navigation menus is calculated based on the "Page width" and “Company Name width”. The formula is "Page width" - “Company Name width” – 6 = Top Navigation menus width area (ie. using the default values, this would be: 757 – 260 – 6 = 491 pixels).

Left Frame / Area Region Additional User Code
If you want to add additional information to the bottom of the left side area, the area underneath the Copyright Note, then check the check box and enter in plain text or HTML code. If you do not want to have the additional information added to the site, then uncheck the check box. The edit box is limited to 254 characters.

How it Works
The currency symbol you choose is added as a character prefix to the currency value. In other words, the currency symbol does not become part of the typical number formatting utilized by Excel. It is simply a static text character added as a prefix to the value amounts displayed in the Product Ads.

Important Note:
All currency symbols other than the default US symbol ($) will appear only on the Product Ads displayed on the Home Page Design sheet, the Product Design sheet's Product Ad preview image, and all Preview HTML & Published HTML web pages. The rest of the program, including the cell values within Product Design and Database spreadsheets, will display the default US ($) currency format. The reason for this is due to both the Window's Operating System settings and the Characters types supported by the system. This program was developed using both the US English Window's Operating System and the US version of Excel.

What you are concerned with here are the final Published web pages. All Published HTML web pages which contain Product Ads will include the currency symbol you choose.

(2) Shipping using Mal's e-commerce
The shipping units for use with Mal’s e-commerce shopping cart was previously set as a Global Add to Cart variable. This revised version has made it a Dynamic Add to Cart Variable and now includes its own “Shipping Units” field column in the Product Database. This was an issue brought up in the Frequently Asked Questions section titled “Shipping using Mal's”.

Upgrading from Version 2.0 to Version 2.2
Since a new database field was added to the version 2.2 Database spreadsheet, you must manually copy and paste your old version 2.0 product database data into the new database keeping in mind to avoid the newly added field column called “Shipping Units” when pasting in the data. The version 2.0 database contained 30 fields and the new version 2.2 contains 31 fields. The “Shipping Units” field is located in the middle of the database.

All your other version 2.0 data such as the Categories, Site Themes, and FTP Account settings can be imported into the new version 2.2 via the Import utility . First export the data from version 2.0 using the Export utility and then import the data into version 2.2 using the Import utility. The Import / Export utilities can be accessed via the Product Design sheet.
