Ebay Store?
Submitted by standr on June 20, 2006 - 5:42am
Hi there
I am evaluating XLEcom (and I think it looks really good)
After a cursory look thru some of the user sites, I have the following questions:
1. Is there a site search utility - I don't see search utilities on user sies.
2. I notice the Google page rank is non-existent on the sites I've viewed. Are XLEcom sites optimised for Search Engines? Am I just viewing the wrong sites?
And another question:
3. Will you ever support an export to eBay store format? Maybe an option to export as normal shop and export as eBay store?
Many thanks
Richard

Very Interested
An ebay bulk loaded that actually took all the tendious work out of creating individual listings would be great. I am currently using two programs for my ebay store, Inkfrog and Blackthorne, but with each of those you still have to INDIVIDUALLY set up your new ads.
If you do move forward with making this compatible with ebay stores, please email me and let me know. I would love to pass the info on to my visitors.
Thank You,

Melissa:
I will keep you updated if I develop an Ebay bulk upload utility.

RE: Ebay Store?
Richard:
1. Is there a site search utility
Currently there is not a search utility built into the program. You can add a search function to your site, but this will have to be an external addition. There are many free search addons such as Master.com, FM SiteSearch Pro from focalmedia.net, and Google's Site-Flavored search.
The following XLEcom User's website uses a Search feature:
Site: The Jonti Online Shop
Search Addon : FM SiteSearch Pro from focalmedia.net
2. Search Engine Indexing
All the xlecom published pages were designed from the beginning to be optimized for search engines. You can also include META tags (built into the program) in each page for search engines that do not cache pages but will index pages.
Most of all Ecommerce web sites on the internet today do not get their product pages indexed by search engines. The reason why is because their product pages do not actually reside on the web server. These product pages only get generated and sent to the users computer when a user clicks on a product page link. This type of method uses a database application residing on the web server to serve up the pages on the fly when they are requested by the site visitor. These database type web sites use asp, cgi, and php type programming to accomplish their function.
Since this xlecom program actually generates HTML pages, all of your site's pages including the product ad pages can be indexed and cached by search engines.
For maximum compatibility for search engine indexing and page caching among all search engines, published your site as a non framed site. This will guarantee that all page get indexed or cached.
MSN, Google, and Yahoo search engines work fine for both framed and non framed sites. Other search engines work better with non framed sites.
3. Google Page Ranking
Keep in mind many of the user websites are new an do not have many reciprocal links set up with other common type websites for efficient page ranking on Google. In order for a website to have a good page rank with Google, one must set up reciprocal links with other common type websites.

4. Will you ever support an export to eBay store format?
At this time there has been no other inquiries for developing a template for eBay stores. If there was more interest, I may consider adding this feature in a future release.
Actually this program initially started out to be an eBay bulk upload template, but evolved into a stand-alone web application for website development. If you look at the Database sheet you can see the similarities to the eBay listing format for bulk uploads file format. In XLEcom you can easily export the Product Ads (Database sheet) and modify it for uploading to an eBay store.
