Revisit the multiple location management of XLEcom

Sam, would you mind revisiting the process of allowing to people to manage a website using XLEcom from two different locations? I know you answered this before, but I have tried both options and neither seem to work well. Maybe I am doing something incorrect, or maybe I just do not understand the information the way you tried to explain it to me the last time. I apologize in advance for any irritation this may cause. Thanks, Dorian

RE: Revisit the multiple location management of XLEcom

First of all, the most important concern when having two people maintaining the same website is to make sure that the Product Ad database stays synchronized.

This program was not designed for product synchronization in a multi-user environment such that multiple uses can edit the same website at one time. Therefore one must find some way for both of you to edit the same XLEcom.xls file so that the Product Ad database stays synchronized.

As mentioned previously in your other post (Can More Than one User Add products?), you have two methods to choose from, either via FTP or using Windows Remote Access.

The best way to support dual editors in a multi-user environment while keeping the Product Ad database synchronized is to use the Windows Remote Access / Desktop method. This way the Product Ad database in the XLEcom program stays synchronized.

Both of you need to be running Windows XP in order to utilize the Windows Remote Access / Desktop method.

You can use Windows built-in "Remote Desktop" to edit the same XLEcom.xls on one machine from two different locations. This is the simplest method. Please do not request help in setting up the "Remote Desktop". This is a Microsoft Window Operating system issue and there is already help within the system and on the Internet for setting this up.

Other less efficient ways are to either manually share the same XLEcom.xls file, or to export and re-import the just Product Ad database into each other's programs. These are not the best methods to use because it requires both of you to notify each other when changes are made.

As for now, the Windows Remote Access / Desktop method is the best way to support dual editors while keeping the Product Ad database synchronized.
