Size of ads

Sam,
I have a large amount of ads that go with the same categories so it is making my pages very long. Is there a way to customize the size of the ads to make them smaller?

Thanks,

Carrie Moore

RE: Size of ads

Carrie:

For efficiency reasons it is recommended not to have more than 20 to 30 Product Ads per page. Therefore you should carefully consider how you structure your Main and Sub Categories.

Here are three possible solutions for you:

(1) Use the "Ad Design" function to control the physical size of your Product Ads. Reference the following documents for more information: Product Ad Properties and Site Design Setup

(2) Suppress the longer "Item Descriptions" when publishing your site.

(3) Break down the categorization of your products by including more specific Main and Sub Categories.

Hope this helps,

Many Ads

Sam,
I understand what you are saying, but if you look at our website, then maybe it will make more sense. We have broken the categories down as for as we can. If there were sub sub categories then it would help, but without that I don't know what to do. We only have about 10% of our part numbers up and the left scroll bar is already really long. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

RE: Many Ads

Carrie:

At this time I can offer the following solution. There may be other alternative solutions, but for now I offer "a" solution.

Briefly, publish the site with all 4,000 Product Ads, then create a new "Product" Top Menu Navigation Support page with all the Product Ads links extracted from the left.html frame page.

To do this:

(1) Publish the site with all 4,000 ads.
(2) Open the left.html page in either a text editor or better yet with an HTML web authoring program.
(3) Reposition all the Product Ad links to fit within the width dimensions of a Support page.
(4) Publish this new links page using the HTML web-authoring program.
(5) Open this new links page in an ASCII text editor and copy and paste the body contents into a Support page in the xlecom program.
(6) Title this Support page as "Products".
(7) Republish just the the Support pages only without the Product Ad pages.

This "Products" page will now display all the links to the Product Ad pages.

You can then manually remove just the Product Ad menu contents (both the Main and Sub categories) from the left.html page and enter in some other HTML stuff in its place or just leave it blank.

Remember to save the edited left.html page to a different location so that you do not overwrite it when you perform an XLEcom Publish operation again. When you upload your site, remember to also upload the newly edited left.html page.

It is best to perform this procedure when all 4,000 of your Product Ads are complete and you have Published the final website with all of your Product Ads. Keep in mind that you will have to republish one last time to get the new "Products" Support page. Performing this procedure at the end will minimize the work you have to do for creating the Products links page in the HTML web-authoring program.

A Faster and Easier Solution

Carrie:

A Faster and Easier Solution to your Product Ad link Problem

Briefly, all you have to do is extract all the Product Ads links from the left.html frame page to make a new "Products" page.

Assuming your XLEcom program resides in the default install location of C:\Program Files\XLEcom, do the following:

1. In Xlecom, first create a Support page titled "Products".

2. Publish the entire site with all your Product Ads to your local computer, ie. C:\Program Files\XLEcom\Publish

3. While the new site is displayed in your web browser, highlight and copy "all" the Product Ad links on the web page.

4. Switch to Excel and paste these Product Ad links into a blank Excel worksheet. Each link will appear in its own cell.

5. Rearrange the cells containing the links in a user presentable format being aware of the maximum page width of your site.

6. Using Excel's File >> Save As.. command, save this worksheet as an HTML document with the name products.html into the published HTML file directory C:\Program Files\XLEcom\Publish\html. This will replace the original XLEcom's created product.html file.

7. Upload your website to your web server.

That's it.

It took me 5 minutes to make a presentable Products page (products.html) using the DemoStore Online Site's Product Ad links .

I hope this helps you,
